Writing the Senses: A Writing Workshop with Eileen Casey

Awakening the senses is a joyful, playful and creative way to begin writing prose or poetry. This workshop uses sensual elements such as taste, scent and touch together with sound and visual prompts in an atmosphere geared towards sensual delight, writing blossoms.

This workshop encourages the writer to navigate the senses so that an emotional response is evoked from even the smallest descriptive detail. Illustrative extracts from Gustave Flaubert (Madame Bovary), Oscar Wilde (The Portrait of Dorian Gray), Isak Dinesen (Babette’s Feast), amongst others, will be included.

Eileen Casey is a poet, fiction writer and journalist. Her most recent collection is Berries for Singing Birds (Arlen House Poetry, 2019).
